FAQs

  • These days, many of us do a lot of things on our own from fixing a faucet to painting the living room. There’s a video or an app for almost everything and they make it look so easy to DIY! Too often though, once you dig in, it isn’t as easy as you thought. You don’t have the right skills or tools, you aren’t getting the result you pictured, and sometimes life just gets in the way of finishing the job. It can cost a whole lot more in the long run to DIY than to work with a qualified professional, especially when it comes to your financial future.

    At WorthWise, we have the knowledge, the experience, and the tools to help you create a clear path to achieve your goals. And it’s not just about money. When you work with WorthWise, we’ll talk about your personal goals, your dreams for your family, the risks you face, and the things getting in your way. You’ll sleep better at night knowing that your future is in good hands.

  • The CFP® certification is a voluntary certification; no federal or state law or regulation requires financial advisors to hold CFP® certification and most do not. It is recognized for its high standard of professional education; stringent code of conduct and standards of practice; and ethical requirements that govern professional engagements with Clients.

    To attain the right to use the CFP® marks, an individual must (in addition to attaining a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university):

    1) Complete an advanced college-level course of study: 7 classes addressing key financial planning subject areas including insurance and risk management, employee benefits, investments, income tax, retirement, and estate planning;

    2) Pass the 6-hour comprehensive CFP® Certification Examination;

    3) Complete at least three years (6,000 hours) of financial planning-related experience; and

    4) Agree to be bound by CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct.

    Ongoing continuing education in financial developments and ethics is also required in order to maintain the right to continue to use the CFP® marks. Learn more about your advisor’s credentials here.

  • A financial planner can be considered “fee only” by charging a flat fee, an hourly rate, and/or a percentage of assets. They cannot receive any commissions for the sale of financial products, recommending certain investments, providing referrals to other service providers, etc., which could create conflicts of interest. Financial advisors who are “fee based” are NOT fee only and may be incentivized to sell you products that increase their compensation but are not the best choice for you.

    At WorthWise we are fee only. Your service fee is our only compensation. We act as your fiduciary, with your best interests and financial success as our only priority.

  • A fiduciary is a person or organization that acts on behalf of another, putting their clients' interests ahead of their own. A Registered Investment Advisor is required to act as a fiduciary, while a broker-dealer is not. Furthermore, a CFP® professional is required by the CFP® Board to act as a fiduciary at all times including placing client interests above one’s own, avoiding and/or disclosing conflicts of interest, acting with care, skill, prudence and diligence, and at all times following the legal instruction of the client.
